We get it. You've started to learn more about how the food system works and you're ready to start eating and living in a way that's in line with your values, in a way that puts both the humans in the food system and the earth first. But where do you start?
We've been there too, and we've got you covered. One of the easiest ways to start aligning your food choices with values that center you and your family's health, your community's economic well-being, and is friendly to the earth, is by starting your own garden and shopping for local foods -- and then, actually eating, cooking, and preserving what you grow and buy in your kitchen at home. There's nothing like a fresh cherry tomato off the vine in August, picking blueberries barefoot in July, taking a raw bite of the first sugar snap peas of the season in late May while you're picking a bowl full to sauté for dinner that night, or plucking fresh oregano and rosemary the minute before you dice them to top off your homemade gnocchi. And we want to share the magic of those garden and culinary experiences with you.

What we offer:
Step 1: Schedule a Consult
Every garden design starts with a consult. We'll have a call (phone or video! your choice, but video helps if you can show us your space) to talk through your space (doesn't matter if it's an apartment window! We can help make some magic happen), the amount of time you want to spend gardening, what you're hoping to grow, and if you have any gardening experience - but none is required, and that's why we're here.
This is also your chance to pick our brains about anything and everything gardening (or food) related - so if you're wondering how to prune and trellis your tomatoes, make the most of a small space, or garden indoors, we've got you there too.
After you book a consult, we'll reach out within 5 business days to schedule a time for your call.
If you choose to move ahead with the garden design process, your consult fee will go towards the price of your final design.
When booking your consult, let us know
a) the square footage of your space,
b) if you'll be growing inside or out, and
c) what gardening zone you're in.
Step 2: Design (don't worry, that's all us)
After our initial call, we'll be in touch to get any last details that we need in order to design a garden optimized for your space and taste (literally and figuratively). We charge $25 per square foot, with a 10-square foot minimum ($250). After receiving the payment balance, we'll get to work designing an edible and herbal garden space that fits your needs, lifestyle, values, and goals.
Step 3: Garden!
Ready to get your hands in the dirt? We'll set up a time 4 to 8 weeks (depending on garden size) after our initial call to go over the design for your garden and our recommendations for installation - and don't worry, you'll be getting this in written form as an implementation plan too. That way, everything you need to do to make your garden a reality will be right within your grasp.
4 weeks for 20 square feet or less, 6 weeks for up to 40 square feet, and 8 weeks for 40 square feet +.
Who is this a fit for?
Are you a complete beginner in the garden, or have you been gardening for two years or less?
You're in the right spot. Our bespoke garden design offer is best for complete beginners or individuals with 2 or fewer garden seasons under their belt. We'll help you plan and launch a garden designed to give you bountiful harvests, with a design specifically for your space and taste (literally and figuratively). We take into account things like southern exposure, afternoon shade, and what plants don't get along, so that you don't plant them near each other (sounds strange, but we promise it's true). That way, you never have to worry that your harvest is at risk.
In this first growing season together, we'll build a solid foundation for you to keep growing on your own. We're here to help you get started - no knowledge required.

Can we do this remotely?
Our bespoke garden design services for edible and herbal gardens are conducted entirely remotely -- meaning that you don't have to ever leave your home to work with us. We have experience growing food across a range of gardening zones, and we work with clients in all zones. Not sure if you're a fit? Who are you?
Hi! Thanks for asking. We're glad to have you here.
We're Mairi and Cate - Mairi is a certified Permaculture Designer with PINA (the Permaculture Institute of North America), and completed her Permaculture Design Certification with Boulder Permaculture. Cate has been studying herbalism since 2018 and is working towards becoming a clinical herbalist.
We've been gardening, baking, and cooking throughout our lives, and have been developing vegan, plant-based recipes for over a decade. We've both worked in commercial kitchens and have experience with canning, drying, and freezing to preserve fresh, seasonal produce at home.
Cate is an avid forager (Mairi's more of an occasional one) and gardener, and Mairi has developed gardening curriculum and taught gardening and seed saving to individuals of all ages, as well as managed and designed a community garden space. Cate is also the founder of Blueberry Road Botanicals, a science-based herbal skincare line, and has been perfecting her herbal remedy recipes since 2019.
All that to say - we've got you covered when it comes to everything you need to know to get started gardening and using what you grow on the right foot, and that's exactly what we're here to do.
